Ozark National Scenic Riverways was created by an Act of Congress on August 24, 1964, to protect 134 miles of the Current and Jacks Fork Rivers in the Ozark Highlands of southeastern Missouri. The clean, clear waters of these two beautiful rivers provide excellent opportunities for canoeing, swimming, fishing and tubing. The landscape is predominantly rural, with broadleaf forests and occasional open fields. The surrounding federal land is great for backpacking and camping.
Directions
From Columbia take HW 63 south to HW 68 which leads to St. James and Interstate 44. Continue south on 68 until Salem. HW 19 south from Salem then gives several route options to the mid and upper river. Drive time is from 2.5-3 hours from Columbia.
